“The first time I saw a snowboard was in a surfing magazine in 1982. I was 18 at the time and asked my mother if she could get me one for X-mas. She called up the # in the advertisement and ordered the board for me and I received a short wooden snowboard with 2 aluminum fins on the back with a nose rope and a rubber binding system. She told me about the conversation she had with the gentleman saying that he was asking questions about me and what other sports I liked to do. She commented ” he sounded like such a nice young man”. That young man turned out to be Jake Burton who also signed that snowboard. Boy how times have changed!! I lived in Telluride in 1987 for a winter and really got into snowboarding loving the similarity to surfing especially carving in powder. Nowadays snowboarding is huge and seems to be still growing, but injuries abound. One of the best ways to keep you from getting injured is to stay in shape.”
